Kozjansko region has always been known as a God’s forsaken part of Slovenia, where local people used to lead their lives as farmers.
Exactly the same was with the Amon’s.
In order to write about your ancestors, one has to have either some mental information about them or physical experience with their lives. But most of time we gather together their oral tradition and then every effort is done to draft that in one entirety. The memories we cherished in life spent with them is of great help, too.
Life that our grand-grand parents led was all but easy and simple. They would spend their days toiling on their fields, meadows, orchards, cultivating hard land from dawn till dusk.
Every single fruit of this hard kozjansko land was highly appreciated, since that was their only source of life. They were always willing to help their fellow villagers. By working hard, honourably and persistently they managed to build their own home on the existing Amon property. Their teachings for honest, hard and persistent work and affection for native soil and country is what we inherited from them.
This is our inheritance.
We are cherishing our Amon valley and enriching it with acquired knowledge with pride, love and honest work. In our grandfathers’ cellars excellent wines are still maturing, in our grandmothers’ gardens healthy vegetables and herbs are growing, old orchards are full of fruits and all that is cultivated in a nature friendly environment and manner. Forests are still embracing our valley, green meadows are more often mowed, since now days there are golf players walking on them and at the same time enjoying themselves in intact nature.
All our products are available to you in the restaurant, where food is prepared as our grandmothers used to cook it and some of dishes are cooked in open fire stoves. Our predecessors would also accommodate passersby, if there was not enough room in a little farm house, then they would stay in a barn, a place intended to store hay. These rooms are now converted into a high quality equipped and nature friendly boarding house Natura Amon. Horses were of great help to our predecessors and were for a long time companions on present property. As a symbol horses still today embellish a family’s coat-of-arms. Pastures, where once horses and cattle used to graze, were converted into a golf course in 1999.
In this way we transfer a part of Amon’s legacy to our dear guests and visitors, knowing that the Amon’s door is always widely open for all good people.
